Know what E. M. Forster wrote about Il Riposo? Nothing. Zip. Not a sausage. Mind you, he never saw it. "A Room with a View"? Ha! It would've been "A Villa with a View" - and he'd have run out of ink! |

Il
Riposo, in Italian, means vacation, rest and relaxation.
Experience
Il Riposo. Vactation
in Tuscany. Rest and relax in
luxury. And not a Merchant Ivory film
crew or prime minister in sight. |
|
Set
in 3 acres of terraced hillside, its breathtaking views stretch across
the Alta Valle del Tevere
(Upper Tiber Valley) to the Lago di Montedoglio (Lake of the Dolium Mountains) and the Monte
della Luna (the Mountains of the Moon).
Here,
in a private world, stone-walled terraced fields and hazelnut orchards
lead down to wild grass and flower meadows with olive, cyprus and walnut
trees; where, almost unnoticed, hammocks hang lazily in the shade, and
secluded tables and chairs are tucked away in groves of broom. |
From
the tiny hamlet of Caroni San Cristoforo a one kilometer cement road
winds up and along the hillside of Picco
Castagno (Chestnut Peak) to Il Riposo.

| Pool
|
Ahead of you, on arrival, in the large stone-walled field above the house you will see the swimming pool (12x 5 metres). Pool loungers and a large umbrella offer comfortable seating for sun worshipers and shade lovers alike. |
| Courtyard If you've resisted the urge to jump in, close by a short flight of broad stone stairs curves down to the kitchen terraces, garden and stoned patio courtyard. From here, beneath the breakfast table umbrella, the views stretch away and across central and southern Tuscany, down the valley, the plains and to the far mountains beyond. |
|
| Pergola
Here, beneath the shade of the vine-clad and lavender bordered pergola, overlooking views down the valley to the lake and hills beyond, outside dining can be enjoyed. |
At
the end of the garden rough trimmed paths lead off into the woods,
while past the side of the house a stone walkway leads around and past
the old (but fully functional!) external bread oven to the front of
the house and the stone-paved dining terrace.
With the external bread oven and BBQ area just off to one side of the pergola, and with direct access to the inside dining room, it is also conveniently located for all types of indoor and outside cooking…by day or by night. |
Additionally,
at locations around the grounds and by the pool, garden tables, chairs and
benches provide space for a coffee, an intimate meal, or quiet reflection with a
glass of wine.
