Il
Riposo
Interior
Want
a fold out sofa in the living room? A camp-bed in the dining room? Tiny
bathtubs with greyish shower curtains and plastic fittings? Oops. Wrong house! Neither effort nor expense has been spared to make Il Riposo special. More than privacy, more than tranquility, Il Riposo is also luxury. Thus, double-door bathrooms open onto sunken baths, stone set corner tubs and two-person showers. Feather pillows and duvets rest on comfortable mattresses framed by 4-poster and wrought iron bed frames.

The Private Rooms In most rental properties, it’s seldom difficult to work out who’s got the best room. At Il Riposo, however, the debate still rages. All five bedrooms are furnished with handmade wrought iron bed frames and solid antique furniture, and finished with high quality bed linens and feather duvets and pillows. Hair dryers and bath oils, as well as the normal essentials, are provided in all the bathrooms. All en suite bathrooms have bidets. |

Terrazza
Bedroom
From
the sitting room three internal steps lead up to this romantic bedroom.
To the left of the room a stable door opens onto the flower-lined
private terrace with its views of the surrounding hills and lake and
direct access to the gardens and the pool. |

Terrazza
Bathroom
To
the right of the Terrazza Bedroom, double doors lead down to the
en-suite bathroom that has been built into what was once one of the
house's chestnut drying towers. The tower structure, with its high
sloping ceiling, gives added emphasis to the sunken tub and shower that
are set into the stone-flagged floor. The bathroom is decorated with
hand-glazed Venetian tiles and classical Michelangelo busts. |

| Torre
Bedroom
Reached
via the internal stone staircase this bedroom and its en-suite bathroom
are situated alone at the top of the house. The largest of the three
master bedrooms, the Torre boasts a four-poster wrought iron bed, twin
matching wardrobes and spectacular views from its large double arched
windows. |

| Torre Bathroom
The en-suite bathroom has, in addition to its marble shelves and sink surround, a two-person tiled shower, complete with built-in tiled bench and large enough for two! |
|
|
|
Giardino Bedroom
Located on the ground floor of the house, the tranquil Giardino bedroom has its own private stable-doored access to the courtyard and the garden beyond. |
|
|
|
Giardino Bathroom
The image of the garden is continued from the Giardino bedroom through the double doors that lead into the large en-suite bathroom where stone floors step up into a semi-circular tub flanked by candles and set in a stone surround. This fanciful image of an outdoor bath is decorated with Neapolitan tiles of ivy and flowers. |
|
|
Situated
at the front of the house and accessed from the sitting room, these
charming and cozy rooms are furnished with wrought iron twin beds and
all the finishing touches of the larger double bedrooms.
From the windows of both the Gemelli, views look out and over the
pergola below directly down the valley to the lake. |
||
|
|
The Gemelli Bedrooms share a bathroom with shower and tub set in a tile and glass surround. |

The
Public Rooms Each
of the public rooms at Il Riposo, be it the kitchen, dining or sitting
room, has, like the bedrooms and bathrooms, been designed and finished to
ensure comfort and elegance whatever the season. |
|
|
The
beam, brick and polished granite kitchen is rustic in decor but fully
modern in content with dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, 6 burner
cooktop, electric oven, microwave, coffee-maker, hand food mixer,
double-sink, washing machine and storage space in the hand-made teak and
chestnut cupboards. Seating
scattered around the kitchen ensures that the cook isn't side-lined,
while the party rages in another room. |
|
|
|
On
the first floor of the house and accessed by both internal and external
staircases, the sitting room features the original large open-hearth
stone fireplace, exposed chestnut beams, terracotta ceiling tiles and
hand-hewn stone sink (now a cushioned window seat), together with the
more modern conveniences of satellite TV, VCR, DVD and telephone. |
|
|
|
The
long solid stone and wrought iron table of the large internal dining
room seats ten (with elbow room to spare).
The mirrors on the walls reflect candlelight by night and, by
day, the stunning views through the double arched glass doors that open
onto the outside dining terrace beneath the pergola.
The dining room also features a small secondary sitting area and
a CD player. |
|
|
|
Here,
beneath the shade of the vine-clad and lavender bordered pergola,
overlooking views down the valley to the lake and hills beyond, outside
dining can be enjoyed. With
the external bread oven and BBQ area just off to one side of the
pergola, and with direct access to the inside dining room, it is also
conveniently located for all types of indoor and outside cooking…by
day or by night. |
|
|
From
this patio courtyard, beneath the breakfast table umbrella, the views
stretch away and across central and southern Tuscany, down the valley,
the plains and to the far mountains beyond. |
